Keystone provides a service where important news from the MTD web site is displayed within Keystone for each user. When someone at your affiliate first opens Keystone on a given day, Keystone downloads a news summary and links to any news items that have been posted on the MTD web site. Keystone then stores this information in your database. As each user starts Keystone that day, this news is made available to them.
If Keystone cannot access or download news updates within a reasonable period of time, Keystone will proceed without retrieving any updates. This reduces your wait time if your Internet connection is slow or down. If Keystone cannot access the updates, the Last News Retrieval date for the news will not be updated.
Use the Affiliate tab on the Affiliate Setup screen to choose whether you want to enable or disable this news service for all users at your affiliate. The Get MTD News check box on the Affiliate tab is checked by default. If you do not want to retrieve news from the MTD web site, you should uncheck this box.
If you access the Internet over dialup or do not have Internet access on your computer, you should uncheck the Get MTD News check box.
Each user then has the option to set whether they want to view this news. You can set this option on the Other tab on the Options screen. Open the Options screen by choosing Tools > Options in Keystone. By default, the Get MTD News check box is checked. To disable the news service for an individual user, uncheck this box.
If the news service is turned on - as outlined above - when a user logs in to Keystone each day, any new or unread news is displayed on the Reminders and MTD News screen. Also, when a news item is marked as inactive (the Active box is unchecked), it will not appear in the list.
The news items are ordered with the newest first.
You can control which news items you want to keep. By unchecking the Active check box for a particular news item, that item will not appear the next time you view the news list.
Each news item has a Date, Title, Description, and may have a Link to the news item on the MTD web site. When more information about the news item is available on the MTD web site or the MTD User Forum, a View option will appear under Link. Otherwise, you will see None.
You can learn more about a particular item using the Description field. Selecting the Description field for a particular item will display a vertical scroll bar to allow you to read the entire description. You can also double-click the description to display the entire description in a larger window.
If you see the View Forum option under Link for a particular item, click the log in to forum link at the top of the window; this opens the MTD User Forum in your web browser. Log in to the forum, then come back to Keystone and click View Forum to open the MTD User Forum entry related to that item. If you do not have an MTD User Forum account, you can quickly create one there.
If you see the View News option under Link for a particular news item, click it to open the MTD web page related to that item. This also automatically unchecks the Active box for that item, which marks the news item as read. As a result, that item will not be displayed on the news screen in the future. If you want to keep an item that you’ve read in the list for future reference, go back and check the item as active.
Click the button to mark all news items as active. Keystone will then display all of these news items the next time you view the news screen. Click the button to mark all items as inactive. Keystone then will not show these news items the next time you view the news screen. If there are no active news items, the MTD News tab will not appear until new news items are available.
If you want to view all news items whether they are marked active or not, check the Show All box.
If you open the Reminders and MTD News screen but you do not see the News tab, it is because there are no new or active news items to view. If you would like to view past news items again, check the Show News Tab box in the lower right-hand corner of the screen. You then will see the News tab. Then check the Show All box. Past news items now appear in the list.
