Start Screen

When Keystone starts, it displays the Keystone start screen.

In the upper right-hand corner of the start screen you will see three useful pieces of information.

To renew online before your expiration date, visit the Order page on our web site and select the "One-year Renewal of Keystone Support License (Current)" option. You can also download the MTD Order Form and send it in along with your check.

This support information is retrieved from the MTD database using your Affiliate’s Tax ID (EIN) (stored in the Affiliate tab in Affiliate Setup) and the Internet. If you have poor or no available Internet service and would like to turn this feature off, you can uncheck the MTD Online check box on the Affiliate tab of Affiliate Setup

If Keystone is having difficulty retrieving your Support Ends date you may see one of the following errors. If you see any of these problems, you should try to correct them as soon as possible.

Error 0 = This means Keystone either cannot connect to the Internet or the MTD Online service is temporarily unavailable. This error may occur when your local Internet connection or the MTD Online service are running much slower than usual. This problem often resolves itself, but if it persists, please contact MTD Support.

Error 1 = There is no Tax ID (EIN) set up for your affiliate in Keystone. You can enter your affiliate's Tax ID on the Affiliate tab of Affiliate Setup.

Error 2 = Your affiliate's Tax ID (EIN) was entered in the wrong format on the Affiliate tab of Affiliate Setup. The Tax ID is a 9-digit number in the form 12-3456789.

Error 3 = Your affiliate's Tax ID (EIN) from the Affiliate tab of Affiliate Setup and the one MoreThanData has on file for your affiliate do not match. Go to the Affiliate tab and correct it if necessary. If the Tax ID is correct, please contact MTD Support so we can verify and update our records.

Error 4 = Keystone has encountered a problem connecting to the MTD Online service. Check to make sure that you are connected to the Internet. If you are and this error code persists, please contact MTD Support.

Error 5 = Keystone has encountered an error not listed above. If this error code persists, please contact MTD Support.

If you hover your mouse cursor over the error number on the Keystone Start Screen, you will see a description of the error.

Keystone only tries to retrieve this information once a day. You will not see the result of any correction until the next day.

If you have difficulties in correcting a problem, please contact MTD Support.

Whenever you see the start screen, you actually do not have the database itself open. If you are using Keystone over a network, you won't potentially interfere with others using the database when only the start screen is open.

Since only one person can edit a record at a time, if you leave a record open when you aren't using it, you could potentially lock another user out of that record. Therefore, it is important that when you are done with a task, you close any data screens you are using so that you only see the start screen.

Data Screens

When you select a function (such as Contacts or Donors), Keystone generally opens a screen, dialog box, or window displaying information relevant to that function, such as fields of information, calculated values, or record selection options and buttons.

Most main screens are divided into a number of sections. Generally, at the top of each screen is a field for selecting a record. On screens such as Donors or Volunteers, this is the Name field. The lower portion of many screens includes tabs that allow display of different groups of information related to the record you select.

For example, clicking the Development tab on the Donors screen displays a different group of information than what you saw when you opened the Donors screen. When you switch tabs, it leaves the upper portion of the screen with its selection field and buttons visible. Various "panes" (such as Donation History) further organize and group together sets of related information.

Some screens display lists of information in table format, each line representing a separate record of data. A scroll bar allows access to records on lines not shown within the bounds of the display. The Payments screen (available via the Mortgage/Payment Information screen) is an example of this format.

Continuous Screens may also appear on a tab of another screen, as in the case of the payments listed on the Closing Fees screen.

Cancel Entry

The Mortgage Payments, Escrow Disbursements, Donations, and Closing Fee screens have a Cancel Entry button on them. If you start to make an entry, decide the entry is wrong, and the entry has not been stored in the database, (in other words, the record selector still looks like a pencil , you can click the Cancel Entry button and the entry will not be saved.

Once the entry has been stored in the database, the Cancel Entry button has no effect. You must then select the record and press the Delete key to eliminate the entry.

When Closing Keystone is Blocked

Since, when you preview a report or a receipt, the button to close the report or receipt is right under the button to close Keystone, the button to close Keystone is disabled to prevent you from unintentionally closing the program. Every screen that previews a report or receipt prevents you from closing Keystone. Keystone can't be closed until that screen is closed.
